To celebrate the 12th anniversary of the Code of Support Foundation in 2023, Pearmund Cellars is bottling a limited-edition vintage of COSF Black Ops wine – and the winning bid was $900 towards the Code of Support Foundation.

Years ago, almost as a lark, Chris Pearmund made the 1st mission of Black Ops.  Chris blended wines from our best lots in an effort to make a wine worthy of calling itself a ‘Tribute to the Men and Women of the Military”.

The quality of the product and the power of the story took off.

It is now an annual tradition.  Black Ops is the premium, proprietary Bordeaux-style blend produced by Pearmund Cellars. We call it “Our Best for The Best”.

Now on our 7th Mission (in lieu of vintage), the blend is kept covert by Chris Pearmund and his winemaking team. We like to say, the way you trust the Special Forces to do their job well, and not ask questions, we trust Chris to do his job, and don’t ask questions.

This current Mission has leather, earth and menthol on the nose. On the palate, one tastes dark fruit, and sweet cherry, on a medium body. It is equally able to pair with a Filet Mignon, Double Cut Pork Chop or a plate of cheese and a beautiful sunset.

It is not only the wine that makes Black Ops so special.  The wine partners with Code of Support Foundation (COSF) in helping veterans make a smooth transition to civilian life.

Although Black Ops is not submitted for competition, our greatest accolade is the $3750 paid for a signed bottle at the 2019 COSF auction, making it the highest price ever paid for a Virginia wine. Every dollar went to help our veterans.

The contribution doesn’t stop there.   Several times throughout the year,  Pearmund Cellars host ‘Black Ops events”  where the public is offered premium wine at a deep discount, while funds are given to Code of Support.

While the story is quite special, it what’s in the bottle.   This current Mission has leather, earth and menthol on the nose. On the palate, one tastes dark fruit, and sweet cherry, on a medium body. It is equally able to pair with a Filet Mignon, Double Cut Pork Chop or a plate of cheese and a beautiful sunset.

In 2002, Chris Pearmund (with some help from his friends) built Pearmund Cellars from the ground up, making it the 47th winery in Virginia.  It success was to be based on making the best wine we can, while providing a unique opportunity on every visit for our guests.    Over the years, the dedication to the original tenets of the business has not wavered.  As one of 300+ wineries today, Pearmund Cellars is considered a leader in the Virginia Wine Community.

The commitment to using Virginia fruit is carried on today.  We source from the Meriwether Vineyard, on our estate, as well as 100+ acres of vineyard throughout Virginia. Our vineyard partnerships are longstanding, using and managing some of the same vineyards from our beginnings.

The Quality of our wines is evident, not only by the awards and accolades gathered over the years but by the satisfaction of those enjoying them.  To ensure quality, each year we go into the season not with a plan to make “X amount of Merlot”, but with a fluid strategy-allowing the vineyard quality to make many decisions for us.  In turn, you will never find an identical varietal lineup from one year to the next.
